What is the officially supported debug probe for TM4C1294NCPDT?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SEGGER

What probe(s) do you officially support for this microcontroller?

  • Hello David,

Not sure how to answer this question.

TI provides an ICDI interface on the development and evaluation boards along with necessary drivers to program. For most development an external debugger is not required.

But any debug probe that works with Cortex-M4 devices should work with TM4C devices.

    Thanks,
    Sai
  • Let this serve as "second, Unsure how to answer."

Clients of ours report success w/JLink by Segger.   Most use the "real" IDE (IAR, Keil) which enables use w/Cortex M0, M3, M4 & M7 - from multiple vendors.  Single vendor limitation is "rarely" (i.e. never) "officially" directed by any of our (serious) clients...

  • What do internal engineers use for development? that would give me most confidence in selecting a tool
  • And some of us have field experience which would lead us to accept vendor supplied development tools as standard only with reluctance.

Agree that Segger works well (at least with the TM4C123 and other vendors devices) and has a good reputation.
  • One notes that you may be forcing vendor to, "push their own" which is unlikely to compare/contrast "well" against long established - superior JTAG/SWD probes - from external sources... (i.e. those IN the JTAG/SWD probe business - which this vendor is NOT!)

We note that vendor's probes do NOT support SWD - resident for nearly 10 years on the "pro probes" - already listed...
