CCS vs IAR for SIL 4 level certification

IDE is more a debugger tool. We do not have certification for an IDE. What we have is the TI compiler qualification and HalCoGen Compliance Support Package (CSP).

Keil and IAR offer their compilers to be used in safety applications for no additional cost(www2.keil.com/.../). To use safety compiler along with CCS involves additional expenditure(purchasing the SafeTI Compiler Qualification Kit)???

We see customers who will be using the SafeTI Compiler Qualification Kit, using a certified compiler from another vendor (like IAR, ARM, GHS) or doing their own qualification.

Our primary reasons for releasing a qualification kit instead of certifying is that a qualification kit is independent of compiler revision. This means you aren't stuck on the same compiler revision in case there are reasons to move to a newer versions.

Correct me if im wrong. So what your saying indirectly means that IAR and Keil wasted time certifying their compiler? :P

  Certification on the IAR certainly has its worth and I would not dismiss its benefit to the customers at all. As you already know that IAR supports RM57. HalCoGen generated code also support IAR compiler.

If we use CCS we need to certify the use of the CCS compiler ourselves. Correct?

I think it might be a leap to say one option is better than another in all cases (specifically with regard to whether or not certification by the compiler vendor is a waste of time). You need to just figure out what works best for your use case, and the good thing is that there are various options available.

For the TI compiler certification kit the best thing to do is probably first look at the demo that you can download here: www.ti.com/.../safeti_cqkit and maybe the whitepaper.

Then if you have detailed questions - it's probably best to post them on the compiler forum: e2e.ti.com/.../ -- because we don't have the same level of depth in compiler knowledge here on this forum compared to the dedicated compiler forum. [here the expertise is mostly in the silicon, peripherals, and the drivers].

I don't think I'd move this thread - rather when you look through the material on the compiler certification kit, if you have a specific question about it that isn't answered by the materials - that question will most likely lend itself to the compiler forum.   I'd open a new thread for that so that the question doesn't get lost.

(Sometimes it is difficult to track when there are too many questions in a single thread - it's better to have a thread for each question).
