Please clarify: Ambiguity in DX-TM4C129X Board configuration.

Hi,

What is the size of Flash in DK-TM4C129X ? In the Started Guide "www.ti.com/.../dk-tm4c129x the flash size 512 Mb where as in the board's Memory Allocator is showing flash memory as 1048576 bytes which is 10 Mb(default configuration). Please clarify which is correct. If the board supports 512Mb of flash memory, then what is the flash configuration to increase the memory size from 10 Mb to 512 Mb. Will there be any impact in board performance if I have increase the flash memory from 10 Mb to 512 Mb ? Thank you in advance.

Hello Satish,

The size of internal flash is 1MByte for TM4C129XNCZAD internal memory

Hello Satish,

The 512Mb is the external serial flash that is connected to SSI bus which can be used for storage of non critical data.

As many such (external) serial flash memories have long proved robust - it is expected that (even) "critical data" - and especially "critical data" - could be so stored.

Perhaps (rather than data criticality) data "access speed" was intended. That would favor the MCU - but external memory wins firm's/my vote when/where data proves, "critical."

I don't see how "critical data" simplifies! Does it not beg the definition of, "What's critical?" If it does (and it surely does) how does that, "simplify?"

Methinks - on both counts (critical & simplicity) - vendor advice was imperfect...

The poster post was on a "Could you share any document link or example program link to store file in Serial Flash.". This was a simple example. I agree, my post was "The 512Mb is the external serial flash that is connected to SSI bus which can be used for storage of non critical data." (well both critical and non critical data should have been mentioned)

Hi Amit,

I raised this point - not to "beat" on any here - but because this exact issue arose @ "giant's facility" last Thursday - and required that firm/I devote almost a full day to its (satisfactory) resolution.

Any data may be stored, "Off MCU." (could be critical or non-critical) Without knowing poster's (reasonably exact) intent - the same swamp as befell our "giant" - may claim another.

We all should be careful when we assign restrictions & limitations - especially before all facts are in. (i.e. practically (never) here - as all posts remain, (forever) Unguided!)
