Can not connect to J-Link via USB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SEGGER, TMS570LS3137

Dear Ti,

I'm having trouble with J-Link after updaring to the latest CCS 6.1.2. I have followed the steps at "www.segger.com/ti-code-composer-studio.html" however I'm afraid that

"In the current version of CCS (V6.1.x), only some devices can be used with J-Link due to CCS internal incompatibilities which need to be corrected by TI, as they are out of the control of SEGGER. SEGGER can currently not provide a list of device which can already be used and which probably need some patching of certain files inside CCS"

applies to this case. I'm trying to debug TMS570LS3137 device. I'm getting the following error when trying to debug

Error connecting to the target:
ERROR in JLINKARM_Open: Can not connect to J-Link via USB.

I get the same message when I go to the SEGGER folder on my HDD and run the JLink.exe. Please note that this used to be working with an older JLink from SEGGER. If there's nothing I can do could you at least suggest to me an older combination of CCS (before v6) and Segger JLink (from www.segger.com/j-link-older-versions.html)

Thank you in advance,
Martin

  • Martin,

The Jlink support in CCS6 is limited and not all functionality are supported.

Here is what you can read on Segger website.

    Caution - Preliminary support only

J-Link support for TI Code Composer Studio (CCS) is currently preliminary / experimental and comes without any warranty and support.

In the current version of CCS (V6.1.x), only some devices can be used with J-Link due to CCS internal incompatibilities which need to be corrected by TI, as they are out of the control of SEGGER. SEGGER can currently not provide a list of device which can already be used and which probably need some patching of certain files inside CCS

TI is working on this together with SEGGER and a new CCS version (CCS V6.2) with full J-Link support is planned for March 2016.

In the meantime, we recommend to get in touch with TI in case it is in question if a particular device can be used with the J-Link plugin or check this page on a regular basis as we might update it regarding which devices can already be used out of the box or with some manual patching of certain files inside CCS.

If possible, I will suggest to wait for the Release 6.2 to have full J-Link support in CCS.
