All Hail the, "Bot-driven" post which realized > 800 views/visits w/in 4 hours - earlier this morn...

Pedal to the metal - this post has broken all (known) land, sea (and air) speed records - achieving more than 800 views/visits this morning.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/tiva_arm/f/908/t/267153

The post is an "orphan" - having rotated "far back" w/in the forum que - and only "6" have chosen to respond and comment - the last back in CY2013!

A month or so past this post was not to be found among the top ten in terms of, "Views/Visits" - and now it is second (only) to an equally flawed view count.

That bot (and its creator) may better serve this forum by "answering posts" and sharing (silicon) expertise.   That's more productive - is it not?

(a more clever bot would move (bit better) under cover - this one was quite easily detected...)

  • Hello cb1

And this adds to the 1M+ view count on another post... Long lost in the Q.

    Regards
    Amit
  • Hi Amit,

Not the biggest of deals - yet such, "automated, hi-volume traffic" must (negatively) impact forum user experience.

SPI Slave Mode is, "in the noise" usage wise - and 33K (real) views/visits is SURE to produce beyond 6 comments!

Again - all, "Hail the subtle Bots" - not so much the ones so easily noted...   (and to what purpose?)

  • Yesterday this esteemed thread reported just over 32K views/visits.  In just the morning its view/visit total increased by more than 800.   (as reported, above)

Checking the very next day (today, 06 Mar 2016) we find the total to have "ballooned" to more than 36K - that's more than 4,000 views/visits in a single day!   Or more than 166 views/visits - each/every hour!

Really?   Can those seeking this orphaned post even find it - as it has long since, "rotated into forum oblivion!"   Is it not (unlikely) that even ONE of the 4,000 "viewers" of that thread would have made (some) comment or question, yesterday?   Yet none reveal - that's telling...

Statistics have value - have meaning - in theory should better enable the vendor (and users) to properly direct their time/funds/resources.

There can be NO DOUBT that (something) is up w/either the forum's, "View/visit count mechanism" or a, "Bot has been crafted to endlessly visit that orphaned thread."   (to what purpose - difficult to imagine.)

We note that TWO threads have view/visit counts, "running wild" - and that both date back to 2013.   (clearly the 1M+ count is incorrect - that's long been reported - to silence.   (if the forum management (appears) "not to care" - are not these categorizations of little value - hugely diluted?

Presented below is today's (10:00 CST) "View-based" thread count:  (note the top two have, "Run Amuck!)
