Mac Beta and Project 0 for TM4C123

Hi, has anyone been successful in building an example project in Code Composer Studio 6.1.2 Mac OS X Beta? I have built a simple hello world app, but unpacking the Tiva-C examples and importing them results in a number of issues (not the least of which is converting it from TI ARM to GNU ARM) as well as referencing includes and libraries that are not configured (the examples come in a windows exe installer).

If anyone has been successful, would you respond with some pointers, please.

Thanks,

Will

  • Feel your pain - yet firm/I choose (not) to "cull ourselves" so far from the (Win) herd. Maybe - just maybe - someone here can help.

Might a similar posting w/in that (other) herd prove more fruitful?

As you'll find - discovering the (necessary) overlap of two, "minority use cases" (TM4C is not market leader) proves highly challenging...
  • What's really funny is that I was thinking "how quaint". Really, no support for mac? This isn't the 1990's is it? I haven't been forced to use bootcamp since the first days of the Intel transition... it's not like I'm trying to develop a Windows application or anything faintly /remotely/at all dependent on Windows OS facilities. Heck, it's the GNU-ARM compiler that's doing the compiling.

I'm really pleased that CCS is available for the Mac, but it'd be swell if it came with a working blink the LED example that ensured the libraries and includes are located in the right places for startup and initialization and whatnot. I'll figure something out - sooner or later, if I have to... When/if I do, if it's not already public knowledge, I'll write it up.

    Later,

    Will
  • Perhaps another path dawns - although it wanders from your expressed roadway.

Superior IDEs exist (Keil & IAR) - along w/multiple vendors of ARM MCUs.   (some actually supporting the FULL Cortex M corp: M0, M0+, M3, M4 & M7)   Setting your course for (one) island (only) - when others beckon - may not be best/brightest.

May I suggest you "thumb thru" the capabilities of either of those (real) IDEs - perhaps even call - and question.   We're not a Mac firm - yet several clients are - and they have succeeded w/IAR.   (our IDE of choice - and there is a free, 32KB code-size limited version, for your evaluation.)

My firm tries to concentrate efforts upon our majority applications.   Becoming IDE "mavens" is far down our priority list - IAR simply works - we receive email & telephone tech support - and the seven different ARM MCUs we (thus far) employ (from 4 vendors) are all well supported via a common interface!

That's important to us - and to many/most of our clients - and perhaps deserves consideration by you - as well....

  • cb1_mobile, I looked and am unable to locate a Mac version of IAR (or Keil). Can you give me a hint where to find it?

    Thx - Will

  • Calling the appropriate, Regional Sales Office usually proves best. I recall several of our client firms (some way/how) "massaging" IAR or Keil into compliance w/their Macs. (we don't usually log that level of IDE usage detail or I'd pass that along...)

Points to you for being so responsive - especially in light of "so limited findings" - thus far.
