TMS570LC4357 / flash resources / .out file format

Hi all,

I want to use the Hercules Controller TMS570LC43570. I want to use the flash 0 section for my program and the flash 1 section for a separate configuration file.

Both files shall be successively downloaded via the XDS100v2 connection.

The configuration file contains different parameters like:

0x01

0x02

0x00 --> for the configuration file version (1.2.0)

How is the best way to generate a seperate configuration file ? Where can I find a discription of the .out file format ?

There are several ways to do what I think you are trying to do. One way, if you are using CCS, is to create a simple assembly language only project with an asm file and a link command file to put constant data into bank 1 of the flash. CCS will assemble and link these files and create an .out file that can then be programmed into the device. I created a simple project to help you get started with (ConfigFile.zip)

There are two types of .out files used by CCS, eabi (ELF) or COFF. You can find detailed information about these formats by doing an internet search. Neither format is easy to manipulate. However, included with CCS is a conversion tool (ARMHEX.EXE) which can convert the .out files into more simple ASCII readable hex formats (Tektronics Hex, Intel Hex, Motorola S-Format). You can find information about the assembler and the hex conversion utility in the Assembly Language User's Guide.

TI provides a standalone tool UniFlash that can program .out files and these other hex formats.
