Hi,

I have connected the LaunchPad JTAG+Reset to my custom board and tried to flash it for the first time but LM FLASH programmer shows the following Error:

**ERROR**:Unable to intialize target- 0!

The connection of JTAG is same as launchPad without zero resistor with the custom board and even I have removed the zero resistors from LaunchPad to debug the new MCU but it show "unable to connect to the target".

Kindly help me out.

Hello Shaheen,

Also please make sure that the launchpad's main MCU is disconnected from JTAG as well.

Hello Amit,

I have pulled up the JTAG pins to 3.3V but the same problem exist.
TDO pin is 1.67 V after pull up so is my MCU locked??

Hello Shaheen,

If you power up the custom board and connect a scope on TDO (with a Pull Up on TDO) do you see that it is toggling, even without any JTAG connection being launched?

Hello Amit,

I was able to flash the blinky.bin file using LM flash.
So i tried to debug in ccs and the program run but it showed mpu cannot be halt and again the same problem started.
Kindly help!

Hello Shaheen.

Thanks. From the image it is not clear which side of the X1 connector is the JTAG signal being taken from.!!! With respect to the image in the attachment, is it on the left side of the connector (towards the DEBUG header) or the right side (towards the main MCU).

Also please send the schematic in PDF format and indicate which header pin is TCK, TMS, TDI and TDO.

Hello Amit,

Its taken from left side of the connector (towards the Debugger side) and I have removed the zero ohm resistors to disconnect the JTAG signal to the launchPad MCU.

It looks fine then. Make sure that TDI and TDO are not swapped.

you mean TDI of the custom board TM4c1294 to the TDI of debugger MCU TM4c123 right?

Yes. Check using a scope if TDI and TDO swing 0 to 3.3V? Also do make sure that there is a good GND connection.

Hello Amit,

when I connect the JTAG and check the signal in the TM4c1294 end then both TDI and TDO toggles together but not every time like it toggles once after two to three times when i press program button on LM Flash.
Same exist when I checked TDI and TDO pin in the TM4c123 end without connecting it with the custom board.

Hello Amit,

I have checked but the pins are not short.

I have seen that after unlock it successfully flash my program but the program is not running and if I try to flash the program once again it shows target not found and again when i complete unlock steps the same thing repeats.

Can you tell me the reason why it is happening??

when I flash the launchpad mcu CRC32 is C846FEE8 and in my custom board it shows B59BF433.

Is there any fault with crystal?? I am using the same crystal as used in launchpad.

If the same binary shows two different CRC values, then there is a problem on JTAG. Is the CRC value during program and verify matching up?

Dear amit,

I wanted to know why she is using LMFlash programmer, when we can directly download the code to the target through 1294LP and tge CCS.

Also I would like to know if there are any BSL running at the target end.

I am not fully aware of the target scenario hebce wanted to know the same from shaheen

Also, i have sometimes faced inability to connect target issues if the VDDC caos are omited, the crystal of the target is not ok, ground discontinuity of the target board and the LP, and specially the track layout of the custom board.
I think there has to be some layout considerations while designing the custom board wrt the Tiva. Orphans in the layout created a javoc for me in a TM4C123 board once.
Hence shared them with you

Another thing to note is that when using CCS to flash, the executable size of CCS is way much large as compared to LMFlashProgrammer and CCS takes longer to flash the image when compared to LMFlashProgrammer (if the only intention is flashing of an image and not debug)
