Modifying Example Projects/Copyright

Hello,

I tried to search through the forums on this topic and couldn't find anything specifically. I am looking to modify the s2e example and include it in a project for commercial use. The code would solely and exclusively on the TM4C1294. To what extent can I modify the s2e example and finder utility? Can I change the text and add a different banner/logo? To what extent can I make modifications before running into copyright issues?

Hello CamK,

You should be able to modify the code to suit your needs as long as it is used exclusively on the TM4C devices. I am not 100% familiar with the text /banner information you mentioned, but assuming these are an output of the application, I don't believe there would be any issues replacing them with your own information. The only caveat I would mention is that the header information within the code files should remain as they are without modification. This protects the copyright of the code and also keeps the licensing in tact.

I will forward this to the original code author as well to insure he doesn't have anything to add.

Thank you for the reply Chuck. The banner/logo I'm referring to as a TI logo that leads to TI's webpage (and also an image of the TM4C1294 that also links to a TI web page). I was wondering if it was possible to remove/change the logo and link the new logo to my own web page.

Hello CamK,

Are you using either of the following?
* The Serial-to-Ethernet TI design: www.ti.com/.../TIDM-TM4C129XS2E
* The Serial-to-Ethernet Application Note: www.ti.com/.../spma072.pdf

If yes, then the license on both of this code is TI Commercial. It is same license that is applied on the folder "./examples/boards" of the TivaWare. This license allows the user to modify the code as they see fit as long as it is used on TI products.
