Reg- micro controller selection

Hello

Anybody plz help to select a micro controller suitable for my application. My application based on automation control system, in this I need POWERLINK communication integrated micro controller. because i use powerlink for control external drive and I need 1MByte Program memory, Min. 256 KBytes of RAM memory

  • Hello Yuvaraj,

So now you have a start criteria for the search. 1MB Flash + 256K RAM. What are the other must have for the design and start converting them to technical features in terms of device capabilities and use TI parametric tools (or other vendor's search) to find suitable parts.

  • Tag spamming really doesn't help you.

Look at vendor selection tools (Digikey, Newark, Mouser)

Less time would have been spent w/"Multi-Vendor" selection tools than that spent (delightfully) @ "over-loaded, tag-spamming!"

  • Hello

I searched lot of vendor's and TI also, still now i can't conclude particular controller for my application. In TI sitra processor family only have the Powerlink communication. If any idea have from your side plz tell.

  • Would it not be more effective to search under "Powerlink?" Vendors supporting that would (reasonably) be expected to advertise under that heading...
  • Would it not be more effective to search under "Powerlink?"

If the OP actually means what he says (being married, I always suppose that this is not the case ...).

Powerlink would be an ethernet realtime protocol, originating from B&R (Austria). However, I assume he means PLC (PowerLineCommunication). The latter is available in form of separate modem chips, thus not really MCU vendor specific.

  • I would like to append something here:
Having been around in the automation/ PLC vendor field (Programmable Logic Control) for some years, I think one better starts the search at the site of the 'inventor'. Almost every PLC/Control vendor has his own implementation of an realtime ethernet protocol, often only available as ASIC or as proprietary library (Profinet RT/IRT, Sercos, etc). They rarely licence others (i.e. competitors) to support their own protocol in hardware. Thus, searching for an MCU/microprocessor to support "PowerLink" might not turn out very fruitful ...
  • Agreed, probably not much purpose searching under PowerLink. It will need a protocol stack to run over Ethernet (either commercial or open source, I think I saw an open source version) Either will require some effort.

The OP might search for a stack first and then pick an IC it supports. That order would reduce porting effort if the micros with existing support are sufficient for the task in other characteristics.

  • Cb1 bows (again) to those w/superior cunning.

That said - the more "general" search suggested - be it keyword or via large disty - surely trumps a search limited to any one vendor. (unless - as poster f.m. well notes - the search item is highly specific & linked to one vendor...)    And - in retrospect - how would the search party know that?   Thus - the "general Keyword search" - past suggested - bubbles BACK UP to, "Top of Search Pack!"
