Hi

I'd like to know why TM4C129x Family of Tiva™ C Series Microcontrollers need internal as well as external PHY? Is it because the internal PHY doesnot support certain protocols?

    Hi Ayswaria,

    The device is designed for broad applications. The application can use only 1 internal PHY for lowest cost and smallest footprint. The application can use internal PHY and external PHY (MII, ping pong implementation), and it can also use two external RMII PHY.

    Thank You for the answer.

    Could you also tell me why is TIDA-00226(containing MCU) connected to TIDA-00496(containing external PHY) ?-Both Support IEEE 1588.

    If is understand right, for lower cost and smaller footprint would TIDA-00226 alone suffice?
