Getting Status of Ethernet/LAN LEDs in code during runtime

Hi All,

I find that whenever we plug in the ethernet cable, the two ethernet activity LEDs light up. I want to know the status of these LEDs in runtime (in code). How to achieve this? Is there any API or function call that will allow me to access the Ethernet LED status via code?

I don't think we provide a register for most of the status bits. The simplest method is to read the IO to find out if the LED is ON or OFF. But what information will the device possibly get from it?

Hi Amit,
Thanks for your reply. My intention is to detect a cable break or cable disconnect. Is there any API to fetch LAN cable connected/disconnected status.

That is called the Link Status which is part of the PHY's status. It is exported as a variable by the lwIP port drivers. Please check the enet_lwip example

Hi Amit,

Did you mention lwIP? Is this part of NDK from TI RTOS or is this the complete separate network stack like lwIP, UIP, etc? I am using NDK (TI RTOS); can you tell me how I can get the connected or disconnected status of the LAN cable?

lwIP is not the same as NDK from TI RTOS. I would suggest posting it on the TI RTOS forum.
