Hello Ti's experts,

It is about one year that I am using TIVA microcontroller in all of my boards, I didn't have any problem with them at all. but these days strange event occurred with my new boards, after several programming microcontroller doesn't work, but it is work when debugger is connected. I checked RESET PIN it is pulled low by microcontroller about 0.5v but when this problem doesn't occurred it was 3.3V and worked normally. also I changed 4.7k pull up resistor and used stronger pull up about 1K and its begun to work but after several programming microcontroller doesn't work at all even with debugger, in this situation I checked VDDC is 1.8V but microcontroller doesn't work.

about five microcontroller burnt with this behaviour in two boards about one week.

this is my first experience with TM4C1231H6PZIR before that I used TM4C1294, 1230,123 and ... without any problem with similar circuit.

attached is the schematic.

any help would be greatly appreciated,

Does this mean you have designed PCBs with different TM4C123 devices?

Have you referred the schematics for the TI designed boards: EK-TM4C123GXL and DK-TM4C123G? Also did you refer the System Design Guidelines for TM4C123 document?

Hello Sai,

Yes I designed several boards based on TM4C12x devices but not exactly this part. for example I designed boards for TM4C1230D5PMIR, TM4C1294NCPDTI3R, TM4C123FH6PM and etc and all of them are OK. I read all documents about schematic and PCB like spma059.

Hi Amit,

Thanks for reply.

First board was connected to stepper motor, J-Link as a debugger and maybe ground of oscilloscope.

Second board: Capacitive touch board with I2C interface, TFT LCD, XDS100V2 as a debugger and maybe ground of oscilloscope.

Hello Siyavash

Power up the board again and check VDDC voltage and the TDO on a scope.

If that does not show anything then only thing that I can suggest at this point is to submit the parts back to TI for Failure Analysis.

Hello Amit,
I demontage the part and change it with new part. I checked VDDC it was 1.2V but I don't remember TDO voltage. I will montage them again and let you the result.

Hello Siyavash,

If the TDO shows a toggle on a scope when a power cycle is initiated, that would be useful information.

Indeed - as would the clear description/explanation of the (meaning) of TDO Toggle vs. TDO fixed - upon power up...

Hello cb1,

A toggling TDO tells if the device has locked itself out (some of the errata where device becomes non-functional use this as a method for lock out detection)

Hello Amit,
I used it again in my new board and I checked what you said,

VDDC=1.27V
TDO=3.3V fixed
TDI=3.3V and toggling when try to debug
TCK=300mV and toggling when try to debug
TMS=840mV
TDO=3.3V and dont toggle at all
RESET=2.2V and dont toggle at all

Hello Siyavash,

VDDC=1.27V is outside the value range I have seen. I just want you to power up the device and w/o connecting the debugger, connect TDO to the Scope....

Hello Amit,

about VDDC it was my fault it is 1.21V.

I did what you said, power up device without debugger, and switch power enable of switching regulator from low to high. attached file is TDO signal in Scope.

Hello Amit,

Not only for this Microcontroller this situation happened but also for 3 parts happened too.
is there any way to check that it is original or fake?
there isn't any TI market to submit the device back.

There are some really good fakes (as far back as 1998 when I did see some DSP clones). There is contact TI on the web page which can help you with device submission process for failure analysis
