RDK-BLDC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3S8971, EK-TM4C1294XL, EK-TM4C123GXL, DRV8301

Hi there, I am interested in RDK-BLDC, and have contacted TI store trying to buy the whole kit, but unfortunately, the kit is no longer available. I have few of these LM3S8971 microcontrollers in the stash so for evaluating I would be fine, but since I cant buy the kit I don't have the PCB. I read that PCB gerber files went with the CD that was shipped with this kit and was wondering does anybody have these so I can build a board for myself. Would evaluate and then port to Tiva C series. It would be an overkill for me now to do the whole PCB design for evaluation purposes. Any ideas? I am ready to buy a kit, or just a CD, or maybe TI support can help me with this. Thank You!

  • Hello Marko,

As far as I know, TI is not producing these boards any more as the LM3S8971 device is obsolete.

It is better to develop your application on TM4C123 or TM4C129 devices as these are in production. As far as hardware goes, a LaunchPad (EK-TM4C123GXL or EK-TM4C1294XL) can be used along with a Boosterpack (for the BLDC driver).

The application used on the RDK-BLDC has to be ported to TM4C devices as we currently don't have an example with BLDC. The examples from RDK-BLDC can be ported to TM4C devices fairly quickly as the register sets are similar. I would recommend first making sure that the PWM signal are generated as expected before porting the applications.

I am not sure if you are willing to explore the stepper motor solution. If yes then the stepper motor TI Design can be found here: www.ti.com/.../tidm-tm4c123steppermotor

    Thanks,
    Sai
  • Thanks Sai,

So no chance of TI posting those gerber files?

  • Hello Marko,

Unfortunately since the device is obsolete we no longer support this product for new designs.

Please see if it possible to use the TM4C solution. Although we don't have a ready to use Software for BLDC, we can support porting the existing application on RDK-BLDC to TM4C.

    Thanks,
    Sai
  • Hi Sai,

    >or EK-TM4C1294XL) can be used along with a Boosterpack (for the BLDC driver).

Not sure if you believe DRV8301 will couple with EK-TM4C1294 but it does not support the booster pack pin configuration of that PCB.
