TMS470MF03107

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS470MF03107

Hi

I am looking for microcontroller with 2 CAN and 2 UART( atleast 1 must be supported to LIN) with automotive and industrial grade.

I found TMS470MF03107 as per my requirement

http://www.ti.com/product/TMS470MF03107/toolssoftware

I have concern whether this microcontroller is recommended for new designs or not???

And if not then plz recommended me any other Microcontroller for the given requirements.

And for  evaluation purpose I am using TMS470M USB Kit.

http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdx470mf066usb

I want to know whether this Kit has external access for CAN, LIN and UART peripherals and it has debugging options or not????

And if there is any documents regarding this USB kit then please share the link....

If there is schematic for the USB kit then please share, that will be more helpful for me.

Thanks

  • Vikas,

So the USB stick isn't something you should plan on adding your own IO to. It's got a CAN transceiver and there is a UART available through the USB debug channel (FTDI chip onboard, one port for Debug, the other is virtual COM channel to UART).

And you can design in that device. It is still current.

However, in most cases one of the lower end of the TMS570 will be a better value:
    www.ti.com/.../overview.page

Look at the 02/03/04 and /07/09 especially if you are thinking of a substitute for TMS470M.

The peripherals are pretty much the same there is a family of migraiton from TMS470M->TMS570.

But w. the TMS570 you get a Cortex R instead of M so much better performance. You can get floating point on some of the R, and the memory can be bigger. Also the R is lockstep so better for functional safety.

We have low cost Launchpads available for Cortex R, between $20 and $30 USD.

    See www.ti.com/.../launchpads-hercules.html

Also if you are starting new development and you are industrial not automotive, you might find you like the RM4x versions better.
