use the TUSB2036 hub with the TIVA USB phy implementation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB2036, TM4C1299NCZAD

Hello Team,

I have a customer who is interested in using the TUSB2036 hub with the Tiva TM4C1299. Does TI have any similar reference design to achieve this.

" I am using a TIVA TM4C1299 part in a design and need to connect 2 USB type A ports to it. Can I use the TUSB2036 hub with the TIVA USB phy implementation? Is there a reference design using this topology?.

The TUSB2036 only offers the DP/DM connection back to the TIVA (TM4C1299NCZAD) but it would seem that it needs the ID, PFLT, UPEN and VBUS connections as well. Do you have any guidance on this?"

Thank you for your attention and time.

  • Hello Kishen

    1. Is the TM4C micro-controller a USB device or host in the intended application?
    2. Is it expected that both ports be communicating at the same time or is it a MUX type design?
  • Hello Amit,

Thank you for taking the time to address the customers query. He has responded the following to your follow up:

"The purpose of the ports is both for mass storage and for software update/service. As such, it is conceivable that the TIVA could be considered a host or a device depending on application. It is also possible that both devices could be active concurrently although this could potentially be constrained. I hope this provides you with the input you need?"
  • Hello Kishen

That is not a clear answer to me. If TM4C is USB Host, then the pin on the TUSB2036 where the connection is to be made is different from when TM4C is a USB device. If the customer can provide a clear block diagram of USB Host and USB device configuration, it would be clearer...
