Questions about the safety manual TMS570LS31x

I am reading "Safety Manual for TMS570LS31x and TMS570LS21 x Hercules?ARMR-Based Safety Critical Microcontrollers (Literature Number: SPNU511D)".

About "Table 4. Summary of Safety Features and Diagnostics", I want to know the contents of the "Unique Identifier".

As of CLK5A, what is the meaning of when the alphabet is in the end?

  • Hi Haggy,
It is to denote a variation of basically the same type of diagnostic features. CLK5A /CLK5B /CLK5C are using the watchdog as diagnostic. CLK5A uses internal watchdog, CLK5B uses internal window watchdog while CLK5C uses external watchdog. You will see similar unique IDs such ESM2A/ESM2B or CPU2A and CPU2B and etc. They are basically the same type of diagnostics but used at different times. For example, ESM2A specifies bootime readback of static configuration registers while ESM2B specifies periodic readback of static configuration registers.
  • Hi Charles

    I have additional questions.
In the case of CLK5A / CLK5B / CLK5C, whether the user may be selected one?
In the case of CLK1, CLK2, CLK3, whether the user must select the all?
  • Hi Haggy,
I think this is a question you will need to decide based on your safety goal. What SIL level are you trying to achieve? The SIL level you try to achieve will decide what FIT rate and Diagnostic Coverage is required for your system. Note the MCU is just one of the componenets in your system. I will suggest that you make this decision using the safety analysis report and the FMEDA tool corresponding to your selection of the Hercules MCU. You can access to these documents and tool with NDA. PLease register at tideals.wufoo.com/.../. Once you register you can also post your question to the private safety forum where your safety questions can be assisted.
