I'm working on a project where we plan to connect the TMS570LC4357 to a FPGA, through the EMAC Interface.
I understood that the EMAC is designed to interface a PHY, with MII/RMII and MDIO management. Then, in order to use the EMAC interface, we have to emulate the PHY behavior inside the FPGA, so that the TMS570 thinks it is connected to a PHY.
We will emulate the MII behavior, but we are not sure if we have also to emulate the MDIO interfaces. Our question is, are there MDIO read operations that are mandatory for the EMAC to work correctly, or can the EMAC interface work fine without requiring MDIO querying ?
This is important, because it will change the layout of the board we are developing if the MDIO interface are needed.
