Help drawing a schematic

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EK-TM4C123GXL

Hi, I recently designed a project that involved interfacing a Tiva TM4C123G board with a display and keypad. I was wanting to draw up my final design for a blog to show how it was wired together but i'm not sure of the best way. Is there any software I can use that will give me a design like this?

Regards

  • Hello Harry

As a student, Eagle CAD is suggested as they give students Cad tool license for a very low cost and limited trial version for free.
  • There are several options
At the high end with lots of capabilities there are programs like Altium Designer.

I'm partial to Cadsoft Eagle (although I don't know how well its fared under Newark) which has both free and purchase versions. It has Schematic capture, layout, rule checking for both schematic and layout (ERC/DRC), an autorouter and fairly extensive scripting capability. It has better linkage between schematic and layout than I had seen in the costlier packages I'd used.

There is also at least one open-source package (KiCAD?) but I can't comment on their capabilities or ease of use.

  • I have used Eagle, I still have it installed however I have struggled to find the Tiva TM4C123G in there - I found an old post through here which said all CAD programs weren't supported including Eagle
  • This was what I found, under Design section near the bottom. It doesn't seem to open with Eagle for me

  • You could check EAGLE's forums (if they still exist) or just create the part yourself. It's not difficult and it's a good exercise to do so.

I prefer to generate my own parts in any case, that way I get the proper checking and I fall prey to my own mistakes not that of some developer in the CAD company.

The command line shows strength over the GUI for this kind of task although I can imagine part wizards that might help.

Not surprising, those are not EAGLE files (the readme says created with Pads (which I think Altium has bought). Someone needs to change that description. Amit can you direct that to someone appropriate?

  • Hello Harry,

If you wish to generate the CAD symbols then you can generate tool specific device CAD files from the following link
