Hello, TI Experts,

Our customer is designing prototype board based-on TMS570LC4357-EVM(TMDX570LC43HDK).

They require the PCB layout guide line such as http://www.ti.com/lit/an/spraav1b/spraav1b.pdf

I would appreciate if you tell us the PCB layout guide line for TMS5704357BZWTQQ1 such as below two;

  1) The value of "Mask Opening" such as page 9 of "SPRAAV1B".

  2) Which is recommended of "Pad Type" such as page 8 of "SPRAAV1B".

       - the solder-mask-defined (SMD)

         or

         non-solder-mask-defined (NSMD)

Best regards,

  • Have they looked at the footprint provided in Ultra Librarian format? See: www.ti.com/.../quality
  • Hello, Bob

    Thank you for your prompt reply.

    Yes.

    Our customer opened "TMS570LC4357_ZWT_337.bxl" and  investigated the contents with Ultra Librarian

    from https://webench.ti.com/cad/

    But they couldn’t find the information as below two;

     1) The value of "Mask Opening" such as page 9 of "SPRAAV1B".

     2) Which is recommended of "Pad Type" such as page 8 of "SPRAAV1B".

           - the solder-mask-defined (SMD)

             or

             non-solder-mask-defined (NSMD)

    So, again,

    I would appreciate if you tell us the PCB layout guide line for TMS5704357BZWTQQ1 such as above two;

    Best regard,

  • You can see these answers in the footprint that is downloaded.

     1) The value of "Mask Opening" such as page 9 of "SPRAAV1B".

           - look at the diameter of the pads as they appear on the top soldermask layer.
            that is the mask opening size.

    2)  Which is recommended of "Pad Type" such as page 8 of "SPRAAV1B".

         So you should see that the soldermask opening is larger than the pad (on the top copper) which

         means it is NSMD type.

  • Also will add - SPRAAV1B isn't the best packaging appnote for Hercules .. although it's a great appnote in general.

    Hercules products use a 0.8mm nFBGA and the appnote describing that technology is www.ti.com/.../getliterature.tsp
  • Hello,

    I really appreciate your help.

    This information is very helpful!

    I sent the answer to the customer.

    We can open "TMS570LC4357_ZWT_337.bxl" and see the "soldermask layer" with Ultra Librarian as below.

    But we don't know how to measure the mask opening size with Ultra Librarian.

    I would appreciate if you tell us the good way to measure the mask opening size with Ultra Librarian.

      - Is there measurement function on this tool or not?

    Best regards,

  • Hi, I don't know the tool that well, but what I would recommend is exporting from the BXL to one of the formats that the customer is familiar with.
    That's the idea anyway - there is one software-independent file (BXL) and a translator to different tools like Eagle, Altium, Cadence, Pads, ...

    If they just go to their favorite tool then they probably already know how to measure in the tool.

    If they don't have a favorite tool, try to output the BXL file in XML and this should list in 'text' the dimensions of the pad on each layer.
  • Hi,

    Thank you for your kindness.
    This information is very helpful.
