TM4C129ENCPDT: EOL

Part Number: TM4C129ENCPDT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TM4C1294NCPDT

Hi,

We are using above mentioned controller in our new project. For the same I would like to know whether the below part is active for the next five years or not?

  • Hello Farminas

The TM4C12x device family is not planned to be EOL anytime soon. However as an additional note no vendor will guarantee anything.
  • Still, you are likely to start seeing "Not Recommended for New Designs" for a long time, before the EOL.
My feeling? As much as possible, try to make your board design compatible with the more popular versions within the family (i.e. the TM4C1294NCPDT, which is the launchpad version, so naturally more known) - hence, in case of a sudden market trouble, it would be easier to pin-by-pin replace your IC for another part.
  • Hello Bruno

Indeed. However the devices in the product family have a lot of pin-to-pin compatibility issues (how unfortunate for us when we try to provide replacement part numbers).
  • IMHO that should not keep TI from considering pin compatibility later on for current parts.

However, having some experience with other vendors, I've got the impression that most of this pin-compatible-device" business is driven by large customers (and purchasing commitments > 100k units p.a.).

  • Hello f.m.

Absolutely not. Pin compatibility is something that we are spending much time on to make sure we are least disruptive to the application.

My comment about other vendors was mostly fueled by experiences with a company headquartered in Chandler/AZ ...
