EK-TM4C123GXL: I2S interface in TM4C123

Part Number: EK-TM4C123GXL

I am planning to use Tm4C123 microcontroller for audio signal processing. But it seems there in no I2S interface in the microcontroller. Why TI don't  provide I2S interfacing in their controller, just because it has DSP processors, whose market will get affected if they started to do so. Now a days cortex M4 controller can execute complex DSP operation and they have floating point unit in their core.

Regards,

Tapas

  • Please take a look at this application note on emulating I2S on the TM4C123: www.ti.com/.../spma042b.pdf

Cortex M are general-purpose microcontrollers, including the M4F. A few DSP instructions do not make a DSP, despite marketing efforts elsewhere. Check out the C5000 / C6000 DSPs from TI, on this website.

Why no I2S peripheral was included in the TM4C design can only answer TI. I guess they did not intend to target the audio market.
