RM46 Hercules Demo Can Reader

Hello Neil,

I am not familiar with the tool that you are showing so I can't be 100%, but my guess is that this is an attempt to display the data but the data is not recognized as ascii data? Or this could be because the RM device is little endian and the tool expects data as big endian?

If you can provide more information on where the tool originated, I could track down more about what the tool is expecting and perhaps give more information.

It's been a while since I've worked with the Safety MCU Demo application so I had forgotten that we included the CAN display window. What have you connected to the CAN inputs on the HDK? Have you included the proper terminators on the CAN Bus per the CAN 2.0B standard? Have you confirmed the other demonstrations in the app are working properly?

Yes, the other demos feature perform as expected.

I have been working towards proving the CAN 2.0B operation of my test jig. I am most interested in knowing about text that briefly appears as finish the configuration. That text is "<3>".

I am wiring the CAN network to DCAN1. Let me know if I need to do anything else (jumpers, DCAN2 wiring, dip settings).

It does communicate now. Oddly, I saw a situation where it showed no messages, but then showed the messages after I click the CAN Demo dialog frame.

I am glad it is working for you. I know the Safety MCU Demos can be a bit misbehaved at times as it is relatively old and wasn't done in the most optimum ways. Perhaps the garbage characters at the start were a result of some startup glitching or something from Windows causing extraneous data in the buffers used for the data stream. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

The "<3>" appears when traffic is reported and when it is not reported, so it must not be information that is connected with can reader success or failure.

I did see that I will see traffic earlier, if I scroll up the list.
