TMS570* PCB Layout recommendations

Hi

I'm after some help tracking down the documentation for the guidelines/recommendations for PCB layout for the TMS570's. 

Not in the Datasheet or Reference Manual (that I can see anyway). I'm also surprised to get zero relevant hits for the search terms "PCB" or "Layout" within this forum.

    Hi Jim,

    Unfortunately, we don't have a specific document with PCB layout recommendations or design guidelines other than information included in the datasheet. I did a search on "guidelines" as well and almost all of them point to answers similar to mine above. Our general recommendation on this at the moment is to use best practices when doing the PCB layout. Specifically, keep filter caps, bypass caps and ESD structures, etc. as close to the pin as possible.

    We do have several isolated APP notes discussing issues such as hook up for the TPS65381, ADC source impedance considerations, 12-bit ADC interface considerations, etc. A comprehensive list of application notes can be found here: www.ti.com/.../technical-documents.page

    Thanks for looking into this.

    Glad to hear my searchFU skills hadn't failed, but on the other hand disappointed & surprised to hear TI hasn't done a single document cover this aspect for an entire family (well, TMS & RM so multiple families I suppose).

    Thanks for the suggestions on the App Notes. I'll also study the LaunchPad/HDK schematics on the assumption (hope this time it's a good assumption) that they were designed with best practice in mind!

    Jim,

    I don't think LaunchPad or HDK are good for 'best practices' in the sense that LaunchPad has to be designed to be extremely low cost and operate off of USB bus power,   and HDK is designed to route all the signals through bunches of switches to support all the different options on the chip - neither of these represent what you probably want.   We don't have a 'system design' guideline. 

    so I'd limit looking at LaunchPad and HDK to a guide for functional questions like 'how did they hook up to that phy..' not questions like 'where did they put the bypass capacitors'..

    Okay, I'm glad I mentioned the launchpad/hdk aspect. I wasn't convinced they would be "perfectly" designed but you imply they may be some distance away. "Proceed with caution" then.
