I have a question about external osc for TMS570LS0232. Is it necessary for us to set 16M external osc? Or we could use lower value external osc? what is the influence for clock system?

Hello Xinyu,

You can use any external clock input between 5MHz and 20MHz. The minimum pulse duration of the input OSCIN is 15ns.

In addition to QJs post, please also consider the following from the datasheet which establishes the min and max clock cycle requirements for OSCIN as well as min and max pulse widths for low and high pulses. This will help identify the min OSCIN Crystal that can be used.

Hi Vivian,

We don't usually make recommendations for specific crystal manufacturers, however, this thread may be useful e2e.ti.com/.../1869798 recommendations#1869798

It provides a link to a manufacturer where customers can input some criteria and it will help identify which of their crystals to use. Also, customers could simply replicate what we use on our development boards. I think these part numbers can be found on DigiKey.com.

In the end, they will still need to get the crystal and tank circuit characterized by the crystal vendor to make sure it is optimized for the MCU.
