PC hangs when TM4C1294XL connected to Ethernet

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EK-TM4C1294XL

Hello,

I have been working with TM4C out of the box example code (qs_iot) with exosite. When the launchpad is powered by an external power supply and connected to router through ethernet cable, I am able to connect the controller with exosite website. On the other hand, my PC hangs when the controller is powered up with my laptop & the controller is still connected to the router. When I remove the ethernet cable, my laptop works fine (launchpad still powered with laptop). I even checked the voltage on the controller and it is 3.3 VDC. Also, I don't face any issue when the launchpad is connected to Laptop's ethernet port and powered up by Laptop's USB port.

Are there any power/EMI issues I am missing in my setup? My ultimate goal is to get access to the serial port of the launchpad (with laptop) while the controller is connected to the ethernet.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Moving this thread to the TM4C forum for better response/support.
  • Are you using a TI development board such as DK-TM4C129X or EK-TM4C1294XL, or is it you own custom hardware? My first guesses are that either you are pulling too much current from the PC USB port (try using an externally powered USB hub) or you have a ground problem.
  • Hi Bob,

I am using EK-TM4C1294XL development board. Is it recommended to connect the launchpad with PC's USB port and Ethernet simultaneously? Nevetherless, I checked the USB voltage and it is coming out to be +5 VDC before & after the Ethernet is connected to the launchpad. So, I suppose too much current is not being drawn from the port else I would have seen some voltage drop on the USB port (please correct me if I am wrong).

It is possible that there might be some grounding issues & therefore I did not connect my laptop with its charger. Is there anything else I can try other than using an externally powered USB hub?

    Thanks,
