TMS570LC4357: ETM-R5 32 bits fixed port size vs. ETM and EMIF muxing

Hello,

Is it possible to only use the non muxed 8 lower EMIF_DATA[0..7] bits considering that CoreSight ETM-R5 TRM (DDI0469B) indicates that the macrocell supports only the 32-bit port size ?

Configuring ETMCR to an 8 bits port size indeed lead to bit[10] of ETMSCR being cleared to reflect an unsupported port size.

Hello Frank,

This ETM-R5 TRM says that it only supports 32-bit port size. I remember the trace32 (from Lauterbach) does support 16-bit port size on Cortex-R4 ETM. I just compared ETM-R4 and ETM-R5 TRM, they are same at port size definition and description. Can you check the value of ETMSCR?

Programming any port size different than 32 bits in ETMCR.PORT_SIZE[6:4] leads to of ETMSCR.PORTSIZE_SUPPORTED[10] to be cleared, which seems to indicate that only 32bits port size is supported, thus forbidding usage of ETM trace in case EMIF is used. Do you confirm ?

Hello Frank,

Please use TPIU to configure the port size. The ETM-R5 module is connected to a Trace Port Interface Unit (TPIU) with a 32-bit data bus. The TPIU provides a 35-bit (32-bit data, 3-bit control) external interface for trace.

Before the user begins accessing TPIU registers, the TPIU should be unlocked through the CoreSight key and 1 or 2 written to this register.
