TM4C123GH6PM: ecu for agricultural machinery control can/j1939

Part Number: TM4C123GH6PM

Hi:

I am new in TIVA controllers, and I need to design an ecu for read parameters in diesel motor and show them in display unit.

I have begun to analyze the CAN routines of Tivaware.
Any idea where to find examples of CAN use in j1939?
  • Ernesto,

Not sure if you came across the CAN examples for TM4123X board:

    C:\ti\TivaWare214178\examples\boards\dk-tm4c123g\can

  • Simma Software did a TM4C port for their J1939 protocol stack:
    www.simmasoftware.com/j1939.html
  • You may also investigate, "If   "CAN-Open" " is allowed - or "fits" w/in the framework of J1939...

No "Display" detail is supplied - what specifications dictate that choice?

  • Considering it's a diesel motor, I doubt CAN-Open is available. J1939 is the standard in that arena.

The two standards do appear to use different ID address spaces (29 bit for J1939 and 11bit for CAN-Open). If, in fact, that's the case they should be able to be co-resident. Whether that's wise is a separate question.

  • The sailboat we were to launch (Maine to Halifax) has an inboard diesel - and we were told it was monitored (and somewhat controlled) via CAN-Open. (at this stage - as I'm (both) "Wristless AND Likeless" - I can neither, "Confirm nor Deny" such claim...)
  • [LIKE] Because (1) I don't want cb1 to be likeless, (2) I like sailboats and (3) I empathize with him being wristless as I am currently "thumb less" due to a sail boat accident.

If the diesel engine on the sailboat is indeed a marine engine, it is likely using NMEA2000 protocol. NMEA 2000 is based on the SAE J1939 high-level protocol, but defines its own messages. NMEA 2000 devices and J1939 devices can be made to co-exist on the same physical network.
  • Be STILL - my (no longer) "LIKE-Less Heart!" (stillness (still) prescribed for my 13 day sprained wrist - sprained while "tripping/walking!")

Great kindness - thank you - appreciated. Sorry to learn of your (similar) thumb injury - till "hurt" - we never realize "how often" it is used!

Firm/I have been asked to develop "CAN-Open" for (both) BLDC Motor Control and Autonomous Auto (D & D) Displays - thus my (gentle) "push" in that direction. I've a boat in "MDR" (L.A.) but this is a new one - and only my 2nd time, "in the Atlantic" - under sail - w/gurl crüe.

We (now) have both sailboats and horses in common. (I was NYC boy w/a horse! Dad acquired a riding academy on Long Island - and I had a "Win-less" thoroughbred (Strawberry Roan) as my charge. He was as "smart" as powerful - forced me to become more "disciplined" rider...)

Apparently you two are pas in a pod. cb1 gave me all his likes so he needs more. Your generosity is appreciated.

And there is, of course, no chance that an itinerant sailor would hook-up their own system using CAN-Open. Thought not.

  • "Itinerant Sailor" - how (deeply/unfairly) that salt encrusted blade cuts!        (Passive-Aggressive R. A. "survives" (even upon the high seas.)

When the Los Angeles Coast Guard pronounced (one here) "Fit for Sailing" that pronouncement was (less than) unanimous.      (many before me, "Hit & Split the dock" when "Sailing (motor-less) into berth!")

As to "lash-up" - note that much aquatic life - noting cb1 @ the helm - leap aboard!      (figuring that safer than risking "beheading" - due to the (somewhat) erratic course - set by a "mad captain - upon a (near) rudderless ship")

Despite protests from the "passively aggressive" Anti-CAN-Open Crüe - the "Can-Open pennant" will fly high & proud (just beneath the skull/cross-bones) proving the North Atlantic, "CAN be Opened!"      (we hope)

And - we are told - CAN-Open should (shortly), "Speed, Ease & Enhance" the development of  "Agricultural Machinery & its Control..."     (via ... "Simplicity > KISS > Success!)     CAN-Open was (clearly) "Created to fulfill an "Unmet Need"" - unwise to "dismiss" simplicity in today's Tech World...
