TMS570LC4357: Bricked TMS570LC43 while flashing

Part Number: TMS570LC4357
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Hey there,

we got a TMS570LC43 Launchpad for our project and we use an Lauterbach Power Debug Interface with Trace32 over Jtag to flash new software. The problem happend while flashing over Trace32, the power for the Board went low ( we mounted it on a RC-Car that runs with Battery) and the board went out. Now we cant access it anymore, nether with usb over Uniflash nor with the Lauterbach device.
If it is plugged in the 5V LED is on and nothing besides that. Not even the XDS110 status LEDs light up when we connect the USB.
The Lauterbach just prints that the device is in reset.

So is there any possible way to access the Launchpad again?

Thanks in advance for your answers

Philipp

  • Hello Philipp,

The drop in the battery supply voltage could have created some reverse biasing on the board and damaged some of the components. Based on the behavior you describe, I would believe this might be the power supply circuit of the Launchpad. You can verify this by checking the LDO 3.3V and 1.2V outputs. If you find they are damaged, you could try replacing the LDO that is used to power the MCU and see if this helps or, if there is a jumper for the 3.3 and 1.2 supplies that you can get to, you may be able to circumvent the LDO supplies and provide power yourselves with an external supply. This may be a moot point due to the effort and it may be better to just order a new board given the relative low cost.
  • Hey Chuck,

thanks for the answer! I checked the outputs and it turns out that i only get aboout half the voltage at the 3.3V rail. I dont think the effort isnt worth it, we ordered new boards but it takes some time until they arrive, so i wanted to ask if i could have done something to make the board usefull again.

    greetings

    Phil
  • The only suggestion would be to remove the bad LDOs and connect blue wires so you can hook up an external power supply. Or, you could check the part numbers on these LDOs and order replacements from Digikey.
