EK-TM4C129EXL: how to interface ssd1963 based 7" TFT display

Part Number: EK-TM4C129EXL
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F6659, BOOSTXL-K350QVG-S1

Hello,

I have 7" TFT  display based on ssd1963 controller and  have TIVA development board EK-TM4C129EXL. I have searched on internet for supported graphics library but i can't find for particularly this development board.

I have already interfaced this display with MSP430F6659 using MSP GRLIB  and now want to shift on TM4C129 controller due to low speed of MSP.

Please Give link if there any example project of graphics library for above board.

  • To the best of my knowledge this MCU vendor (and many others) have avoided example projects based upon SSD1963.    (that (likely) due to vendor desire to "push" their unique Graphic API and/or signal accommodation for an "uncontrolled" Display.)

A "real" display vendor (unlikely - one resident upon eBay) may prove a superior source for such "example."

As you report "success" w/MSP - would not an "Obtainium Approach" see you "mimic/translate" key MSP methods via your ARM MCU?    There DOES exist a graphic library for your ARM MCU - yet it (likely) requires (some) modification to adapt it to SSD1963's "care/handling."

Our firm has past employed the SSD1963 (w/a far faster ARM M4) and found 16 bit parallel data to provide the optimal performance...    (note that (certain) newer ARM MCUs provide enhanced support for such displays - and may reduce (even eliminate) the requirement for SSD1963 ... ... this "proven" via the lack of new/similar "Display Control devices" ... SSD1963 is bit "long in the tooth.")    Casting a "wider net" may prove (very much) to your (obtainium) advantage.   (far trumps the too passive/expectant - "Give a link!")

  • Hello,

I don't have any other option. so i have to interface it. Please suggest if i get example or support. Also i can't find example project for EK-tm4c129exl board. so where should i get it.

Can you not go to: "Boss, Client, Investors" - requesting a "broadening" of your options?     (and how did you enable a situation w/(potentially) so few options?)

My initial post described what I believe to be a "reasonable justification" for most MCU vendors to "shy away" from supporting the "generic" SSD1963.

Understand that - like you - I'm an "outsider" - thus have only (slightly) more insight as to where you, "should source vendor approved/tested (example project.)"

The fact that you claimed success via MSP MCU rather strongly suggests that you start a systematic conversion of, "Key Display Functions from MSP style" to "TM4C style" - that's rather obvious - is it not?

  • Hello Unobtainium,

We do not have any example projects for such an LCD. We have examples for a smaller SSD2119 display using either the DK-TM4C129X board or the BOOSTXL-K350QVG-S1 BoosterPack, but that is all.

We also have generalized example code using the TivaWare LCD controller under [Install Path]\TivaWare_C_Series-2.1.4.178\examples\peripherals\lcd but I don't think that will be very applicable to your application.

As cb1 suggested, your best bet if you are locked into that screen is to deep dive into how the MSP GRLIB handles that display and then make the corresponding adaptions to the TivaWare provided GRLIB to leverage those APIs to mimic the same processes.
