TMS570LS0432: EMULATOR FOR TMS570LS0432

Part Number: TMS570LS0432

Hello.

I am building a custom board for TMS570LS0432 micro-controller and want to choose a JTAG emulator. Which is a more suitable emulator among the two:-

a) XDS110 JTAG Debug Probe (Part Number: TMDSEMU110-U)

b) XDS100v2 JTAG Debug Probe (Part Number: TMDSEMU100V2U-14T)

Could you also provide the reason for choosing/not choosing one over the other.

Thank You.

  • Hello Kartik,

Generally I would recommend the newest one which is the XDS110, but reading the description of devices supported I don't see any clear indication of support for Hercules (Cortex-R devices). This stated, I know we use a version of the XDS110 on our most recent launchpads without issue but I am concerned since there is a limit to only CCS v7.0 and the XDS110 on our launchpads had no such limitations.

The XDS100v2 is an older more proven emulator and I would be confident it would work for you. It does have fewer features than the XDS110 and will be slower, but I know it doesn't come with the unknowns that the XDS110 comes with. However, I notice on the page to which you linked, it is listed as being replaced by the XDS110 and there is no option to buy it on the TI site.

To be sure, I will move this thread to our CCS support forum so they can address the inconsistency noted in the XDS110 description where the Cortex-R based products are not listed as supported.
  • Hello Chuck.

Hercules is mentioned in the supported devices list in this link: www.ti.com/.../TMDSEMU110-U

But yes, Cortex R is not mentioned. Kindly clarify.

  • Thanks Kartik! Sorry I missed that.

Then I would recommend going with the XDS110 definitely as it is faster and offers greater features/functionality.
