How can i capture the free run counter in software.

Actually i want to calculate the computation time of my instructions.

You can count clock cycles between two breakpoints. See "Configure a Count Event" in this WIKI article:

Or - via IAR's IDE - you can, "Simply read the cycle count" with "no/zero" effort. (no configurations or other "extra work" required - hallmark of a PRO, Vendor Agnostic (i.e. proper) IDE...)
