TMDX570LS12HDK: Biss C implementation on TMS570LS HDK

Part Number: TMDX570LS12HDK

Hi, i'm trying to communicate with magnetic encoder which can be found from here: https://www.ichaus.de/iC-MH16

I connected encoder's SLI(serial data in) to SIMO , SLO(serial data out) to SOMI, MA(serial clock) to SPICLK pins of the Hercules HDK. And i'm simply trying to send data via SPI. Did anyone tried it? Is it doable thing ? If yes how to properly do it?

Thanks for information.

  • Hello Rasih,

We have no experience with this device. I would encourage you to contact IC-Haus to see if they might have experience interfacing to a standard SPI module. Perhaps they might even have some reference code that could be ported/used as a guide for implementing on Hercules. Certainly, it would be best to explore the SSI option rather than than the BISS option since the BISS option requires more protocol level customization than SSI and SSI is closer to typical SPI operation.

From their datasheet I see that the device VDD is nominally 5V. You should confirm that the SLO, SLI and MA are 3-3.6V since our IOs are not 5V tolerant. I could not immediately confirm this upon review of their datasheet.

You might also consider use of the Hercules eQEP module which could potentially provide similar functionality if you are using an external quadrature encoder.
