Hi,

I can't connect my board to the PC, keep getting messages "power surge on hub port". This is the same for all usb ports on my laptop.

Did anyone have similar experience

No, don't have another PC with me nor another board. However, have reinstalled all my drivers and the problem persists. I have checked the board and the jumper is on ICDI as advised

How long have you been using the board? Is this problem just appearing? Do you remember what program running in the flash before you start to see the power surging issue?

Can you power cycle your PC? Do you have any other USB devices connected to the PC? If yes, can you disconnect them for now? When you connect do you see the LED for the power on the board? I assume you connect to the USB debug port, not the USB device port, right?

Please find another PC and try so we can know if this is specific to one PC or all PCs.

I have several others devices connected to the PC. I have disconnected them and plug in the board (upper right usb connector) but again get the message about power surge. Might get access to other PC in day or two. Do You have any other advice I might try before trying it on other PC?

Another thing to try is to measure the current draw by taking out jumper on JP2. Put an ammeter between the two JP2 leads and how much current do you see?

Just wanted to confirm that this is a out of box LaunchPad, never have been used before, correct?

Tried with the reset button, still no luck.
Unfortunately, don't have ammeter with me.
But, I will buy usb hub and try with that one. Even though I reinstalled all usb drivers. Problem might be there...

Yes, this is launchpad taken out of the box, never been used before.

Is that a powered USB hub? If you are not using a hub with a separate power supply then you would still expect to get the message.

Hi,
Can you get a digital multimeter that has the capability to measure current on JP2? Even with the message, can you still connect to the target and perhaps load a simple hello or blinky program? I wonder once a program is loaded will it make a difference? Personally I have not seen an out of box board with such a behavior as you are having.

It may pay - if the multimeter proves proper (resistance measure w/voltage low enough so as NOT to "turn -on" various semi-junctions) to measure the resistance across your TM4C board's USB connector's 5V pins.

You have not disclosed - nor have you been asked - to comment upon the, "Power Led" upon your board. Such request now lands!

A "too low" resistance reading there - likely would cause the situation you report...

Should that "prove the case" I'd carefully "pull any (assumed) filter caps across the 5V line. (they are "usual" suspects.)

And - a replacement USB cable - could not hurt...

Just plugged my board to usb on another PC, could not be recognized. PC was idle, no message on new device found, no searching for drivers. Nothing... Any advice?

When plugged in - does the LPad power Led turn on? And - most helpful to obtain & repeat such test w/a different USB cable. (although current "does" appear to flow thru that cable to cause, "Power Surge Report." It is expected that yours is far more likely to be an "over-current" rather than "surge" situation.)

Not a single LED is on, there is no sign of life on that board.
Yap, trying with other cable is next thing on my agenda.

Feel your pain - yet a completely "dead LPad" (from fresh) appears, "Off the charts" in rarity. We have been "gifted many" & have purchased several hundred "4C123 not 129" - every one has worked! Also our volume is such that vendor provides us w/FAE service - they too have not encountered "LPad DOA - or destined for the ER - upon birth (opening)..."

Imagine my surprise :) This isn't exactly rocket science so that I might have contributed. To summarize, I connect the board to my laptop via usb cable (not touching ethernet cable at all), and other than power surge message nothing happens at all. Not a single led is on or blinking. I have tried pressing reset button, but no success. I guess I didn't make any mistake. However, will try with another cable... might have more luck

What puzzles me more is that "power surge" message appears on all usb ports on my laptop, yet other consumers work fine. So, it might be cable after all....

It was the cable! I connected my board using other cable and greed LED went on.... What a success :) Thanks all for valuable advices

What "thanks all" - was it not "this reporter" who "identified that cable as your issue?"
Surely that was the post which resolved - was it not? Nice green (real) Resolved my issue would be a "nice touch."
