Hi, I am working with a Hercules development board, whose model should be in title prefix. When JTAG verification is run, the test fails and asserts, "The controller has detected a target power loss. The user must turn-on or connect the power supply for the target." It is clear that the 3.3V and 1.2V power supplies are not working either as the 3V3 and 1V2 LED's do not light up while the 12V and 5V do.
I have viewed the schematics and isolated the issue to a 3.3V regulator, the TPS73733QDRBRQ1. This component appears to be very hot when the board is plugged in. From the schematics it seems that the 1.2V regulator is dependent on the 3.3V for its supply so that would explain why it does not function either.
Anyways, my question is, does it appear that the part I need to replace is the 3.3V regulator? I am unsure how to verify if it is indeed this component that is broken or if instead a component that requires the 3.3V supply, such as the 1.2V regulator is shorted and sinking too much current from the 3.3V regulator causing it to become hot?
I appreciate any help. Give me either your input on what you think could be faulty or let me know if there would be a way for me to test for the faulty component. I would like to order replacements from TI but wanted to check on here first. Thanks.
