EK-TM4C123GXL: Support for SMBus using Energia

Team,

my customer wants to interface BQ40Z50-R1 using the mentioned TIVA LaunchPad + Energia.
The BQ has a SMBus interface, which is based on I2C.

They are experienceing problems interfacing the BQ part, and they are suspecting Energia I2C drivers to be the problem.
It is similar as the problem described here, first post dated 2016-03-24. The posts are about MSP430 LaunchPad, but it's the same problem, so Energia is suspected.

Are you aware of a possible fix?

before looking for a possible fix, you probably want to confirm that it is indeed a problem, not merely suspecting it to be a problem.

maybe you can post a code piece and tell people what it should do and what it actually does so others can help you nail down the issue.
