TMS570LS1227: Interfacing eMMC into TMS570LS1227 is possible?

Hi,

We have chosen Hercules controller TMS570LS1227 for an automotive application since this complies to safety critical standard.

We need to interface eMMC into our controller as this has come as new requirement. But this controller does't have inbuilt SD/MMC engine. I tried to find availability of host controller so that I can use any serial bus of my micro controller to do this job, but seems to be impractical.

Can someone help me out in what way the eMMC interface can be implemented in TMS570 using either SPI/I2C or EMIF?

Hello Prabhu,

TMS570LS1227 doesn't have a dedicated SD/MMC interface, but it can interface SD/MMC with SPI since SD/MMC supports SPI mode. The eMMC specification doesn't support SPI mode.

Thanks for your prompt response.

Since eMMC doesn't support SPI, is it possible to use EMIF (External Memory Interface)? I can understand there may be more software overhead.
Was it implemented by anyone either using EMIF or any other other mechanism?

I read the eMMC protocol, and don't figure out how to interface eMMC with EMIF signals.
