Microcontroller for Home Automation

Hello

I have a home automation project,

The microcontroller unit needs to be controlled by ethernet connection, wi-fi and, GSM module.

And It needs around 60 I/O pins to control lights, blinds, and relays for home appliances etc.

Please guide me which Microcontroller best for my applicaiton

Warm Regards

Emin

  • Hi,
The TM4C129 will provide the number of I/Os you need and it has the ethernet MAC with built-in PHY. However, it does not have built-in wifi and GSM capability. If you are using a LaunchPad then you add a boosterpack board with wifi onto the Launchpad.

If you are looking for a network processor you can find additional info on the TI Simplelink MCU here www.ti.com/.../overview.html.
  • I do not use launchpad, I just want to use the microcontroller on a PCB which is designed for this project.
Therefore, I want to know if it is capable for GSM module. My aim is to keep the system connected to internet via GSM module. ?
  • Hi Emin,
I see you change the responsible organization to Safety MCU. Just wanted to let you know that the the lowest cost Safety MCU does not have Ethernet capability. Even the higher end processors will not have the built-in PHY.

If your GSM module has the UART or the interface that the TM4C129 MCU provides then certainly you can use the TM4C to work with the GSM module.

If you meant to look for inputs from the SimpleLink platform then you can post your questions in the SimpleLink forum at e2e.ti.com/.../.
  • For the first sentences, Is it possible to make a connection between Safety MCU and ethernet unit via UART ?

I have GSM and Ethernet module, both have UART.

I do not know what Simple Link is ?
  • Hi Emin,

I think we can disregard the Safety MCU. I was mistaken to think that you are looking for Safety MCU solutions. The Safety MCU does have UART capability though.

If your choice is the TM4C129 then it does have 8 on-chip UART and on-chip Ethernet with PHY.
