TMS570LC4357: eQEP inputs synchronization selection

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

Hello,

We are currently using the eQEP module in the TMS570LC4357.

eQEPx Input Synchronization Selection

In the Reference Manual, section 6.5.11, it is described that eQEP inputs (EQEPxA, EQEPxB, EQEPxl, EQEPxS) can be connected to the module in two ways (Double-synchronized using VCLK3, or Double-synchronized using VCLK3 and then filtered through a 6-VCLK3-cycle counter).

In the datasheet, section 7.3.3, it is the same description: eQEP inputs (EQEPxA, EQEPxB, EQEPxl, EQEPxS) can be connected to the module in two ways (Double-synchronized using VCLK3, or Double-synchronized using VCLK3 and then filtered through a 6-VCLK3-cycle counter).

In the datasheet, section 7.3 and Figure 7-7, the input synchronization selection seems to provide three ways for eQEP inputs EQEPxA &EQEPxB  : asynchronous, double-synchronous, or double synchronous + filter width. But this selection seems to be for EQEPxA & EQEPxB inputs only whereas the Table 7-12 describes eQEP inputs synchronization selection also for EQEPxl and EQEPxS but without configuration in asynchronous mode.

Why an asynchronous selection is provided in the Figure 7-7 ? can this selection be configured ? if yes how to configure this one ?

Is the Figure 7-7 only applicable for EQEPxA & EQEPxB inputs or for all the eQEP inputs ? Can we configure all eQEP inputs in asynchronous ?

Best regards,

Christopher

  • Hello Christopher,

Sorry for the confused description in the datasheet. I will check with the owner of the TRM and datasheet. Thanks
  • Hello Christopher,

    Thank you for your patience.

We reviewed the TRM and datasheet , and the original pinmux spreadsheets. For eQEP and eCAP input multiplexers, there are only two inputs: Double-synchronized using VCLK3 and then filtered through a 6-VCLK3-cycle counter. The async input (EQEPxA or EQEPxB, ECAPx) depicted in Figure 7-7 (Datasheet) and Figure 7-5 (Datasheet) are not implemented in this device.

We will modify the figures (7-5, and 7-7). There will be no change to the tables (7-12, 7-8, in datasheet).

Thank you for finding those errors.
