TMS570LC4357: N2HET for PWM monitor and PWM monitor internally and externally

Part Number: TMS570LC4357

Hi Team,

  My customer want to use N2HET for PWM monitor internally and externally, for internally monitor, there is no external connection for PWM output and N2HET, for externally monitor, an external connection implement between PWM output and N2HET input.

  During TMS570LC4357(337PIN ZWT package) usage,   customer has concerns on using W3(PWM5A)/ N2(PWM5B)/ J1(PWM6A)/ P2(PWM6B)/ V7(PWM7A)/ T1(PWM7B) for PWM monitor internally:   there is only definition for

N2HET1[06] output but without input definition, should W3 used for PWM5A monitor internally?

Expect for your reply, thanks.

Best Regards

Benjamin

  • Hello Benjamin,

    Unfortunately, you question is not clear to me. How are they expecting to use the PWM for an internal or external monitor? What do you mean there is no external connection for PWM output and N2HET? If there is a connection required externally, the customer would need to design this connection into their PCB, wouldn't they?

    For your follow on question, I am again confused. What do you mean by using the PWM as an internal monitor? Do you mean as a kind of watchdog or as an input to the DCC? Or as a reference for the N2HET PWM? Please explain in more detail.
  • Hi Chuck,
    2 Kinds of N2HET monitoring PWM would be used:
    Condition 1: Using N2HET to monitor PWM duty just with internal connection in LC4357;
    Condition 2: Using N2HET to monitor PWM duty with external connection out of LC4357 in PCB layout;

    the Question update as belwo:
    For condition 1, the PIN in LC4357 would be used both with PWM output peripheral feature but also with N2HET input feature; for example, W3 PIN(N2HET1[06]) only defined as output feature but without input definition in TRM, should W3 used for such condition?

    Expect your reply, thanks.

    Best Regards
