TM4C1294NCPDT: RTC circuit

Part Number: TM4C1294NCPDT

Hi sir,

I am designing a custom board. I am new in this field. I have an doubt RTC in TM4C1294NCPDT. I have referred through the TM4C1294NCPDT datasheet and system design guidelines of spma056. For RTC many of them using 32.768Khz crystal. But in our datasheet they have specified two things, One is using crystal and other one is using oscillator. what is the difference between using crystal and oscillator. can you pls suggest it.

  • By crystal they mean a passive two pin component that is driven by the microcontroller. It has not external power or ground connection. By oscillator they mean a 3 pin component that has a power, ground and a clockout signal. Either device may come in a package that has extra "no connect" pins.
