TMDSEMU110-U: XDS110 Faulty Ribbon Cable

Part Number: TMDSEMU110-U

Hi,

Im currently using the XDS110 debug probe but the ribbon cable used to connect to the JTAG interface is faulty, the device works fine when the ribbon cable is in a certain position but when it is moved the scan path is broken, I contacted the supplier of this (Mouser UK) and they said that I need to look on here for how to fix this, surely I just need a replacement cable sending?

Thanks,

Alex

  • Alex,

Which cable are you talking about? Is it the 20-pin debug cable?

If so, these cables are special order and are not usually sold by distributors. A few part number references for its parts can be found at:
    software-dl.ti.com/.../emu_jtag_connectors.html

The cTI 20-pin socket/receptacle is quite difficult to find in distributors. However, I found a possible candidate from 3M that was widely available in common distributors: 82020-6006RB. This receptacle paired with the cable assembly 45120-010030-3749/20-S-6 (Digikey part number) should allow you to build a suitable cable. Keep in mind I did not validate these part numbers yet, thus you can try them at your own risk.

Before you do so, be sure the issue is with the cable and not the header on the pod. You can also try to pinpoint the location on the cable that is causing the problems and try to repair it yourself: remove the receptacle, cut the cable and crimp the receptacle again.

If the issue is with the 14-pin auxiliary cable, the reference I sent above has an orderable part number and no assembly is required.

    Hope this helps,
    Rafael
  • Hi,

It is the 20 pin debug cable, thanks for this information but surely I should not have to buy a separate cable (or even worse another pod if it is the header thats faulty) as this is a fault in the product that was shipped to me?

    Thanks,
    Alex
  • Alex,

Oh, sorry, it wasn't clear to me this was a new product.

In this case, you will probably have to get a replacement under warranty. Can you contact the distributor you purchased this? If you purchased it from TI's estore, the help page below contains details for Returns.

    I apologize for the inconvenience,
    Rafael
  • Thanks,

I purchased it from Mouser UK but all they said was to submit a post on here. Should I contact them again?

    Cheers,
    Alex
  • Alex,

Given you description here, this indicates a problem with the hardware shipped to you. In this case, you need to contact them again to return/repair the product, as they should have a process in place to handle this.

Let me know how this goes, ok?

    Hope this helps,
    Rafael
  • Alex,

Hopefully no news is good news; I am assuming the replacement was successful.

    Regards,
    Rafael
