RM48L950: PLL startup Errata SSWF021#45

Part Number: RM48L950

Hi,

With regards to the SSWF021#45 errata,
The software workaround report(SPNA233A) mentions that "while not 100% effective,
significantly helps to reduce the occurrence of failures".
Could you please let us know how rare is this occurrence.

1.The below E2E mentions "5 retries predict a failure rate of approximately 30 DPPM"
can we assume it will be same for RM48xx also?
e2e.ti.com/.../665708

2.With regards to the retries the errata sheet mentions that "TI recommends allowing a minimum of five attempts"
please let us know if there is any suggestion on how many tries would be sufficient or
is it ideal to remove power and reapply it after some tries?

Best Regards
paddu

  • Hi Paddu,

As Bob said, once the VCO has successfully started after a power-on, it is no longer necessary to run the work-around code. The number of retries passed to the work-around routine is really a maximum for time-out purposes. Once the VCO starts and the PLL locks correctly, the routine exits. The 5 is our recommended minimum number. This will be same for RM48x and other Herucles devices.

It would be ideal to remove power and reapply it. Simply asserting the nPORRST without removing power is no more effective than just a software reset.
