trying to get UL 1998 certification with Hercules MCU

One of my customers is using a Hercules MCU in a design (verifying part number) and is trying to get UL 1998 certification on the microelectronics portion on the UL standard.

He has reviewed the "IEC 60730 and UL 1998 Safety Standard Compliance Made Easier with TI HerculesTM MCUs" whitepaper and looked at the www.ti.com/safeti webside.  Is there any additional material, perhaps NDA material that can help in this effort?

Thank you in advance!

  • Hello Juan,

Most of the hardware diagnostic requirements can be covered by Hercules MCU built-in HW features.

The safety userguide is helpful. It provides information needed by system developers to assist in the creation of a safety critical system using a Hercules MCU.

  • QJ,

Is there any additional collateral (NDA or not) that we can provide to help with this effort? The device is TMS570LS07

As you know, we have already found and gone thru the white paper that has the table you pasted above: www.ti.com/.../spny005.pdf

    Thank you in advance!
  • Juan,

TI provides the following documents under NDA to assist with the safety assessment:

    1) Safety Manual: Details product safety architecture and recommended usage
    2) Safety Analysis Report Summary (SAR1): Summary of FIT rate and FMEDA at DEVICE level for IEC 61508 and ISO 26262
    3) Detailed Safety Analysis Report (SAR2): Full details of all safety analysis executed down to MODULE level for IEC 61508 and ISO 26262

The customer needs to have an NDA with TI to get access to these documents (except for safety manual). Even if these documents are created to help with conformance to IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 standards, the content is still relevant when targeting other safety standards.
