TM4C1292NCPDT: is it that TM4C mcu could work normally at crystal oscillator signal was shorted

dear all,

recently i found if i short the pin of crystal oscillator and make it can't work, TM4C mcu could continue work normally. for this phenomenon, is it normal?

why has this phenomenon? i think other mcu should can't continue work normally.

which feature or peripheral make TM4C work in the situation of without crystal oscillator signal ?

The TM4C1292NCPDT device has an internal oscillator (PIOSC). This device can work running the PLL off of the PIOSC or running off of the PIOSC directly. It also has a fail detection circuit for the main (external crystal) oscillator. When a failure is detected on the external crystal, operation is switched to the PIOSC. Whethr the mcu "continues to work normally" or not, depends on the software. See section 5.2 of the datasheet for more information on clock control for this part.
