TM4C1294NCPDT: Is there any documentation on how I can build my custom board using TM4C1294NCPDT

Hi,

I have designed a prototype using the evaluation board EK-TM4C1294XL and I am ready to create/design my custom board which includes the TM4C1294NCPDT processor. I was wondering if there was any documentation on how I can do so. For example, how I would be able to program my MCU on my custom board. I have just been using the ICDI to program and debug on the EK-TM4C1294XL.

I am having a hard time finding some documentation on how to program the TM4C1294NCPDT on my custom board.

Is there anyway I can test the programming options for the custom board on the EK-TM4C1294XL, before I have my board designed and printed.

I apologize if this is too basic of a question, this is the first board I make/design for production.

Hi,
To program the MCU you must have the JTAG interface on your board. You will have choices on the debug probe ranging from the low cost XDS100, XDS110, XDS200 or higher performance debug probes such as XDS560 or JLink. The bottom line is that you need to have the JTAG connector on your board that allows you to plug the debug probe to your target system.

I had one more question, in processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CLP_Debug it states:

"When an external JTAG adapter is connected to U6 the TM4C123GH6PMI which drives the on board JTAG signals detects the presence of the external adapter. It then places all of its JTAG signal outputs in to a high impedance state allowing them to be driven directly from the external adapter"

This basically means that when a JTAG adapter is connected the TM4C123GH6PMI in the IDCI is taken out of the circuit on the EK-TM4C1294XL board, therefore programing the evaluation board using the jtag adapter would mimic programing the MCU on a custom board without the TM4C123GH6PMI present. Is this correct?

Hi Hisham,
Your understanding is correct. Your custom board will not have the TM4C123 which acts as the ICDI debug probe. Therefore, the external connector is the only JTAG interface that you connect to the target system.
