RM48L952: Hercules and HALCoGen Safety Qualifications other than IEC61508?

Part Number: RM48L952
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN

I have done some research in to the Hercules series chips and the supporting HALCoGen software. It appears these products have been thoroughly qualified to the IEC 61508 standard though Exida. Unfortunately for my project I am not required to follow 61508, but rather the broader requirements found in ASME NQA-1. I do believe the 61508 will meet the NQA-1 requirements, but will not be a one-for-one fit.

I have looked into the 61508 support packages that TI offers, but am questioning if these will help me to meet the NQA-1 qualification or provide information that would allow me to cross-walk the two standards.

Does TI have any information regarding how, or if, these products meet NQA-1? Would the 16508 qualification documentation help or is it very specific to the 61508 standard?

Thanks

  • Allen,

I do believe that the IEC 61508 requirements cover those for NQA-1. I will check with other functional safety experts in TI for their opinion.

    Best regards,

  • Sunil,

Thanks for the reply. Have you received any additional feedback from the TI safety experts yet?

  • Hi Allen,

TI makes no claim of compliance to NQA-1. We also do not have any collateral helping to map NQA-1 to IEC61508. It’s possible that the existing documentation will help, but you will have to do the mapping (and the justification that the mapping is accurate) yourselves.

    Best regards,
    Sunil
