CCS/LAUNCHXL2-RM57L: Connection Problem

Hello everyone,

I want to connect my Launchpad with CPU but after disconnecting it from the UART serial USB cable, I am not being able to connect it to any CPU.

I have tried to verify its connection but it is also not appearing neither in CCS nor in device manager.

The drivers are installed in the CPU, but still is not being able to read the launchpad.

The power on LED of 5V turns on but the launchpad does not connects.

After removing UART cable, the current limiting LED was on for 10 seconds. After that, the whole launchpad died.

Here is a picture of the launchpad.

P.S. On doing short circuit test, I found out that 3.3V and GND are shorted. Can you please help me to identify where the problem could have occurred?

I have tested all the connections, but the C2 with the oscillator appears to be short.

Could this be the reason of shorting of 3.3V and GND?

Does 3.3V somehow connects with OSCOUT pin (assuming the KELVIN_GND and GND are common)?

Hi Ali Zain,
It is not easy to say where could be the reason. The only way to find where is the problem is to investigate your LaunchPad! Any component "behind" the 3V3 power regulator (and power regulator itself) could be the reason. You should start with visual inspection, then active components and finally passives.

There is no place for appears and assumptions. Check schematics.

I have checked the schematics. I could not find any connection between them.

What else could have gone wrong?

P.S. Now when I connect the launchpad the red LED of current limit turns on. What does that mean?

Capacitor cannot be shorted.
C2 should be connected to OSCOUT and KELVIN_GND.

If C2 is not shorted, then how come the OSCOUT and KELVIN_GND are shorted?
I have checked with multimeter that C1 is not shorted, but C2 is shorted.

What is C2 size? 0402?
Wrong soldering, damaged C2 or MCU damaged by ESD?

After removing the capacitor C2, I did the short circuit test but still OSCGND and KELVIN_GND are shorted.
What does it mean?

The only way to understand what is damaged is to isolate different groups that is powerd by +3V3 and observe when short circuit will be solved. Please, start with ICs. Passives are not often causing short circuit.
Any suggestion from somebody will be a hit as the board is not in his hands.
