TM4C1231H6PZ: Troubleshoot crystal

Part Number: TM4C1231H6PZ

Hello, I am trying to troubleshooting an issue with one of our boards and determine if it is either the crystal or the micro-controller that is not working. Power is being supplied to the micro-controller and I have another working board to validate issues and compare the crystal signals. The working board has an 8MHz signal and the other board has a low clock signal. If I cannot get a correct clock signal from the crystal, could it be because the micro-controller is not working or is there a way to determine which is the problem?

  • When you said you had a 8MHz signal on the good board where did you measure this? Is this measured on the OSC0 pin? What do you see on the OSC0/OSC1 on the non-working board? Also check if you have proper connection. The MCU will start with the internal PIOSC and the software will switch to the external MOSC. If you don't switch to the external MOSC, will the MCU work? If it works then the microcontroller is functioning properly in my opinion. Once you switch to the MOSC and if the device doesn't have clock then it is the MOSC that you want to look into. You might want to try swapping the crystal in the good board to the non-working board and see if that makes a difference.
  • Hi,
I didn't hear back from you. Is this resolved? I will close this thread for now and if you have questions you can reopen the thread or open a new thread.
