CCS/TM4C123GH6PM: makefile:197: recipe for target '.out' failed , gmake[1]: *** [.out] Error 1

Part Number: TM4C123GH6PM

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi!

I am working with the latest version of CCS (v8.2). I am trying to build a project that has been working before, but after checking out a different commit from git for a minute and then switching back to the original one I get many many errors and the compilation fails. I've already tried to clean, rebuild, make a new workspace, as well as completely uninstalling CCS and re-installing it, non of those seems to be working, please help!

The errors are too many and repetitive so I am only mentioning a few of them here:

- error #19035-D: unclosed string or character constant

- error #10021-D: expecting filename, option, MEMORY, or SECTIONS instead of "5"

- error #10008-D: cannot find file "["

And the build process ends with the below message in the console:

error #10010: errors encountered during linking; "controller_master.out" not built

>> Compilation failure
makefile:197: recipe for target 'controller_master.out' failed
gmake[1]: *** [controller_master.out] Error 1
makefile:193: recipe for target 'all' failed
gmake: *** [all] Error 2

  • It sounds like some of the environment files were not committed before you pulled the different commit. Are you using the TI or the GNU compiler? Do you still have the .project, .cproject and .ccsproject files from before the time you did the pull?
  • Hi Bob,

That's weird. If the code is committed successfully, isn't the environment files included in that commit?

I am using the TI compiler. And I only have the .project, .cproject and .ccsproject files for each commit. I think the local version of those files from before the pull is now gone, however, if they got pushed with the rest of the code then yes I am currently trying to compile with the same files from before.

I recently also tried to compile the older versions of the code and it still gives the same errors. So I am really lost now :)

    Best,

    Alan

  • Thanks for the help but I have now fixed the problem.

In the project properties under Build>ARM compiler>Include Options, there were two items in the #include search path. I swapped the position of the two variables to match it with the properties of another project that I have and that fixed the issue. Apparently, the order of those variables plays a role :)

    Best,
    Alan
